My Macbook Pro has a CameraBag 2

I love Adobe’s Lightroom on both my Macbook Pro and PC Desktop. Sorting, filtering the pictures i want to get rid off and keep the rest. Wonderful editing capabilities but there are just days when I want to quickly treat a picture without importing it into the catalog and share away on the web. CameraBag 2.0 for the Mac is just the application for that!

Pretty cool.

For those who are familiar with Magic Bullet Looks, it’s very much similar with the switches/nodes available at the bottom. Users of the super Camera+ will love the sliders available to change the intensity & variety of the effect. Check it at Nevercenter, available for the iPad & iPhone too.

Cars and a film photographer

The Mini JCW & Maxi Mini

We did a little spontaneous shoot just recently for pure fun. And i had one take to shoot Razlan Yusof to drive off with the Mini Cooper S JCW edition.

Check out Razlan’s Facebook page, an inspiring young photographer who shoots mostly on film format. Watching him progress inspires me by the days.

Earlier in the day, we had half an hour with the Ford Mustang 1965. Hopefully we get to shoot it again. Here are some captured ungraded stills from the Sony NEX-FS100.

First shot with the Sony FS100: Nizam Lee

Just before it rained in Shah Alam skatepark, I managed to shoot Nizam Lee to do a made 360 flip off the launcher. Here’s a shot of Nizam Lee, an ungraded captured still. Click for fullsize of the grab.

I chose not to use a picture profile which simulates a LOG/flat look. Dealing with 4:2:0 recording, i try to not stray too far away from the looks to be achieved. I was using Abelcine‘s AB_NORM picture profile with a little tweaks of my own. The softness came from the lens itself shooting wide open at F2.5 on the 105mm Nikon Ai-S. Still able to preserve detail nonetheless.

As much magic this camera can do compared to my previous cameras, lighting and style of contrast would always create the biggest difference. Don’t expect it to make everything better. A better tool most of the times just enhances what you can already do.

A Sony NEX-VG20, Canon C300, Vincent Laforet and a coconut. And then some..

It has been a fun run & gun year but a new one’s here. I have sold my cameras (except the NEX-5N) and I’m just waiting to get my hands on my new main cam. In the meantime, Rebecca Saw got me a Sony NEX-VG20 to muck around with. HEHE.

The Sony NEX-VG20 & NEX-5N

It’ll be nice to have the NEX-5N, NEX-7, NEX-VG20 and NEX-FS100 all lined up together for a comparison, wouldn’t it? I’d love to know what it’s like to live with them all at once. It might just happen. =) And i have been using my 5N alot, i do fancy the form factor and the accurate live view exposure with manual lenses.

Sony NEX-5N + Canon EF 28mm F1.8

If you’re up to use your Canon EF lenses with an adapter with an adjustable aperture, here’s a list of working and non working (It doesn’t stop light, instead it just vignettes. Consider it useless) lenses I’ve tried so far.

Works fine on
1. 50mm F1.8
2. 28mm F1.8

Useless on
1. 24-70 F2.8L
2. Tokina 11-16 F2.8

There is an adjustable adapter with aperture control for EF-S lenses, but i remember reading a Japanese site that the 17-55mm F2.8 IS USM doesn’t work well with it. On the other hand, I’ve been falling in love with Nikon AI-S lenses each time i use them, over and over again.

Here’s a little video i made for a friend of mine, Fadhil together with his son Al Farrel having a skate and stroll at the Shah Alam skatepark.

And my first shoot with the Sony NEX-5N in low light conditions together with Bobby and Usher in Mont Kiara skatepark.

And on another note, the Whatever There Was series will be back soon enough. This time it’ll be a little bit of a geeky episode about Canon launching their c300 together with Vincent Laforet in Singapore. The trip was courtesy of Canon HD Professional Malaysia. The c300 is probably a mobile beast to say in short.

And Vincent Laforet. He was pretty stoked with the coconut he had.

2012 is gon be a fun. February is coming and my sweets Hanie was something coming up for myself. Here comes an episode!

We'll be back for a What is Up episode!

Breathe by Tan Hyon-Lè

The top 10 finalists for the BMW shorties Malaysia has been announced. Have you voted for your favourite?

Mine goes to Breathe by Tan Hyon-Lè, Director of Photography, Haruld Goh. I have been briefly digitally introduced to Haruld Goh through my mate Bo Amir Iqram who made an appearance in this film. I gotta say, i do like the main actor in this film. His face fits in this film like home. So far it has been nominated for Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing and Best Sound Design.

adidas Neo: The final GLOW with Hanie Hidayah

Remember the adidas NEO chat? That video wasn’t the finale. Here’s the final glow with adidas Neo. #hanie4NEO

I gotta thank Newba PWC for being a part one of my spontaneous ideas, without him i wouldn’t of been confident to execute in such a short time. And there’ll be a extended cut of this video soon enough.

Skateboarding: A Rainy Day in Putrajaya

TJ wanted to try out some skate photography so i invited him to come to Putrajaya’s Challenge Skate Park. His mates Jean Wong and Tony Chia came along too. Apart from sharing what i know about skateboarding angles, I had some fun with Jean’s Nikon 50mm F1.4 Ai-S and TJ’s Zeiss 105mm F2 Macro. Lovely pieces of glass these are. With the Canon 5D and 60D, here’s what went on apart from the heavy heavy rain in Putrajaya skate park.

And some gear pics.

Video: The adidas NEO Chat!

What is up? It’s been continuously busy good this side and hope all is sweet everywhere else.
The above picture was taken in the Pestle & Mortar headquarters during a lazy Sunday but a busy one for both my sweets and I!

On another more important note, the video titlted The adidas NEO Chat is finally up if you’ve missed it!

If you think both Hanie Hidayah and I deserves some support after this video, here’s how you can help her in the winning of being the next adidas NEO ambassador representing Malaysia!

The adidas NEO chat

The “adidas NEO chat” started out as the topic name over a chit chat in an iphone chat app called Whatsapp by Hanie, myself and our bunch of friends.

I’ve always thought if video making was a gift to move people, i’d love to shoot the people who matter to me. Close to a month ago, i had the golden chance of shooting my sweets Hanie and dear mates for the adidas NEO blogger campaign. Roadtrips there was.

Hanie’s favourite jacket of hers.

I love things that ride on 4 wheels. Have yet to blurb myself with automotive videos.

My brother Alfin stylin’.

Alvin smelling the air.

It’s mad to have the Canon 5D MKII paired with the 60D with this piece of glass. Lots of room to get the pretty shots.

I had 2 DSLR bodies to shoot with and an array of lenses + whatever gear i needed. I underutilized my gear due to constant rain of shoots of 3 locations! So most of the time i was getting my Canon 60D wet (Caution, this body isn’t meant to be abused by weather!).

Short on a garbage bag makes this a little more colourful. Picture courtesy of Gerald Cheong Photography

This wasn’t just another trip to shoot for me. Often traveling to shoot is just a call time to get on the job. It’s a different experience when you’re pouring your heart out with what’s done professionally with people you love. And especially with super people you meet along the way.

The 8TV Quickie crew had a video shoot with all adidas NEO Malaysia bloggers featuring Hanie Hidayah, Leonard Chua, Isabella Kuan, Helenness Chong, Careen Tan, Ewin Ee and Jason Ong. It was schweet to meet up with the Quickie guys Helmi and Ah Hong again. Stoked to get everyone in and make this vid.

Glad I’m able to have some time to create a fun video or something at least, supporting Hanie supports point8cam! Here’s the first video i made for the campaign. This is Hanie.

And this is how you can support us!

8TV #qckfest

My buddies at The 8TV Quickie are having a #qckfest at Zouk, KL this on the 3rd of December 2011!
It’s gon be a party with a photography contest, short film screenings, an art exhibition, live performances, a flea market, food and drinks! Sounds like a joint I’ll be roaming around with my cam.

Pretty cute mini trailers they have. Can you spot myself and Hanie Hidayah?
