Skateboarding: A Rainy Day in Putrajaya

TJ wanted to try out some skate photography so i invited him to come to Putrajaya’s Challenge Skate Park. His mates Jean Wong and Tony Chia came along too. Apart from sharing what i know about skateboarding angles, I had some fun with Jean’s Nikon 50mm F1.4 Ai-S and TJ’s Zeiss 105mm F2 Macro. Lovely pieces of glass these are. With the Canon 5D and 60D, here’s what went on apart from the heavy heavy rain in Putrajaya skate park.

And some gear pics.

Video: The adidas NEO Chat!

What is up? It’s been continuously busy good this side and hope all is sweet everywhere else.
The above picture was taken in the Pestle & Mortar headquarters during a lazy Sunday but a busy one for both my sweets and I!

On another more important note, the video titlted The adidas NEO Chat is finally up if you’ve missed it!

If you think both Hanie Hidayah and I deserves some support after this video, here’s how you can help her in the winning of being the next adidas NEO ambassador representing Malaysia!

The adidas NEO chat

The “adidas NEO chat” started out as the topic name over a chit chat in an iphone chat app called Whatsapp by Hanie, myself and our bunch of friends.

I’ve always thought if video making was a gift to move people, i’d love to shoot the people who matter to me. Close to a month ago, i had the golden chance of shooting my sweets Hanie and dear mates for the adidas NEO blogger campaign. Roadtrips there was.

Hanie’s favourite jacket of hers.

I love things that ride on 4 wheels. Have yet to blurb myself with automotive videos.

My brother Alfin stylin’.

Alvin smelling the air.

It’s mad to have the Canon 5D MKII paired with the 60D with this piece of glass. Lots of room to get the pretty shots.

I had 2 DSLR bodies to shoot with and an array of lenses + whatever gear i needed. I underutilized my gear due to constant rain of shoots of 3 locations! So most of the time i was getting my Canon 60D wet (Caution, this body isn’t meant to be abused by weather!).

Short on a garbage bag makes this a little more colourful. Picture courtesy of Gerald Cheong Photography

This wasn’t just another trip to shoot for me. Often traveling to shoot is just a call time to get on the job. It’s a different experience when you’re pouring your heart out with what’s done professionally with people you love. And especially with super people you meet along the way.

The 8TV Quickie crew had a video shoot with all adidas NEO Malaysia bloggers featuring Hanie Hidayah, Leonard Chua, Isabella Kuan, Helenness Chong, Careen Tan, Ewin Ee and Jason Ong. It was schweet to meet up with the Quickie guys Helmi and Ah Hong again. Stoked to get everyone in and make this vid.

Glad I’m able to have some time to create a fun video or something at least, supporting Hanie supports point8cam! Here’s the first video i made for the campaign. This is Hanie.

And this is how you can support us!

8TV #qckfest

My buddies at The 8TV Quickie are having a #qckfest at Zouk, KL this on the 3rd of December 2011!
It’s gon be a party with a photography contest, short film screenings, an art exhibition, live performances, a flea market, food and drinks! Sounds like a joint I’ll be roaming around with my cam.

Pretty cute mini trailers they have. Can you spot myself and Hanie Hidayah?

What is ‘beautiful’?

Despite the busyness i’ve been coping with lately, here’s something i’d like to steal a few minutes of my time to share.

I’ve always believed that people are like books. Everybody has a story, but don’t judge them by their covers.

On another note, being a video maker is beyond being a tech behind cameras and post production. It’s content that matters. It’s an art form and we’re thankful enough to be able to make videos easily nowadays express out a message.

Credits to @sabrr @medusasarrow @Amelia_zara.
I love the effort taken to give everyone a chance to voice out.

Squidgee: Let me in!

This is Squidgee.

Squidgee on tumblr

My dad recorded this one morning. Apparently, Squidgee has been trying to get into the house all night and greeted them with this in the morning. Squidgee’s a cat who thinks she’s human. This is her way of knocking on the door.

June 2011 episode!

Whatever There Was In June 2011 starts off with, well, whatever there was here and there with snippets of the Don’t Duck It campaign with appearances by Kuah Jenhan and Hanie Hidayah.

Jenhan and Hanie trying their best to not duck the paint!

Some skateboarding.

Numerous attempts of a frontside 180 kickflip by Usher, bank to bank in Mont Kiara skatepark.

We were at Hunny Madu‘s media album launch titled “Pulau Janji.”

And we were a part of Bo‘s music video, “Ten Again”.

Hanie Hidayah vists Gallo by Thian

I was just tagging along with my sweets, Hanie Hidayah to Gallo by Thian located in The Gardens Mall. This was actually taken from my Whatever There Was June footage library, i thought I’d make this one into a single video.

“Teresa Thian, a Raffles Design Institute graduate, came up with this concept that tells a story of love at first sight and marriage proposals while injecting soft, silky materials on sweet and cute designs in the shape or hearts, scallops and flowy things. I definitely fell in love at first sight with her designs. I was even spotting things I liked while the manicurist was doing my nails! Talk about multitasking! ^.^” – Hanie Hidayah

Hanie Hidayah visits Gallo by Thian from point8cam on Vimeo.

Till then, Whatever There Was in June will be up in a couple of days, featuring Hunny Madu and Bo Amir Iqram! I’ve got a Vimeo HD limit!

Sony NEX-VG20 sample videos

It looks like this camera made quite a excitement after it was officially announced to hit the shelves by November 2011. Makes a great companion with the Panasonic AF100/101/102 or the Sony FS100. And you be the judge of quality from these videos.

More sample videos can be found here.

A sensor crop of 1.5x, which makes it very similar with 3rd party lenses compared to my Canon 60D. Their new 50mm with stabilization and adjustable aperture adapters which are available cheaper today. Lovely.

Here’s a useful video demonstration of the Sony NEX-VG20.

However, it is yet to be known how well this camera performs in low light conditions.

The man without limbs, Nick Vujicic

I’m personally stoked with this video. Nick Vujicic, the man without limbs but a “chicken drumstick” has less to show what more there is to life.

Nick Vujicic

It’s sad to say that a man with no limbs makes it believable rather than a perfectly built human being. A few days down the road, it may be just another moving video just for a short phase, sad to say. We’re only human to step into everyone’s shoes. However, I’m super stoked that he’s able to motivate a tonne of people otherwise.

You’re incredible Nick. My hat’s off to you.
