20100903 - Sony NEX VG10 short hands on

Here’s a little video i compiled from Sony Malaysia’s launch of whole new Digital Imaging Line-Up for 2010, which include products from Sony DSLRs, Cyber-shot, Handycam & S-Frame digital frame. Being a filmer and video maker, I had a short hands on the first consumer camcorder which utilizes interchangeable lenses; The Sony NEX-VG10.

Everything else but the VG10 footage was shot with the Canon 550D/T2i + 24-105mm F4L IS Lens + Rode NTG-2 shotgun mic + AGC hack + LCDVF. Only the Canon 550D/T2i footage was graded with Colorista II in Adobe Premiere CS5. Boy Colorista II was a joy to use!

And sorry i had gum in my mouth!

Before I move on with newer skate flicks, it’s time to use the rest and start off fresh. Most clips are shot when i just got the Panasonic HMC152, Opteka 0.4x 72mm Fisheye and testing color profiles with the Canon 550D.

Here’s abit of what i have left, to hopefully make some of y’all to go out skate and have a wicked time.

Josh Lim & Donovan Turn 21 Again

Here’s another of my spontaneous shoots and edits taken place at Josh Lim’s & Donovan’s birthday bash at the Vanity Mansion. Appearances by friends, Advertlets bloggers, stand up comedian Chi Ho representing the upcmoing show Internal Affairs in PJLA (PJ Live Arts) and Hanie who played with fire that night. Here’s Josh Lim & Donovan Turns 21 Again.

Editor’s Note:
This was probably my first attempt in shooting inside a club in lowlight conditions with a HD DSLR. The flicker of the lights were apparent, I couldn’t seem to avoid it even changing the shutter speed. Shot with the Canon 550D, 50mm F1.4 and LCDVF. Edited in Premiere Pro CS5, graded in After Effects CS5.

20100809 - Some gear and then some

In this video, I explain a little on my Canon 550D and lenses, the LCDVF, Canon HV20 and a glimpse of my Glidecam HD-2000 and Panasonic HMC152. My voice was recorded with the Sony ICD-UX70 with a clip mic. Not very spectacular audio quality but it does the job. It was shot with the Canon 550D with 50mm F1.4 lens open at F2.0. It was pretty tough to get a focus on myself since i didn’t have an external monitor to work with. However, it held up not too bad. Edited on Premiere Pro, color corrected in After Effects using Magic Bullet’s Colorista.

I hope to get more in touch with people who’d like to learn more about video or film making, and share what i can offer when i have the time. Hopefully the editing workflow would be the start, and slowly write more about on my experience on camera operation and in camera color profiles.

A test shot when i just bought the Canon 550D. Shot handheld with 50mm F1.4. One battery is pretty short when shooting video, hence the rush of this spontaneous shoot. Almost point and shoot!
